Pricing and Transparency Policy
Pricing & Transparency Policy
At Merry Puppins, we believe in thoughtful, personalized care- and that includes how we price our services. Because each pet and household is unique, our pricing is based on the type of service, visit length, and complexity of careinvolved.
🐾 How Pricing Is Determined
Your rate is set after we discuss your needs and determine what level of care is required.
Pricing may be adjusted after the initial in-person consultation if care needs differ from what was discussed by phone.
Because of this, our rates are not published-they’re tailored to you and your pet.
🕒 When Extra Time Is Needed
If we need to extend a visit to ensure proper care, we may add time to your service and adjust the charge accordingly. Examples include:
Locating a shy or hiding pet (we must confirm every cat is safe at least once per 24 hours)
Cleaning up a mess, such as a dog getting into the trash
Assisting a sick pet or administering medication that takes extra time
We’ll always communicate with you if extra time is needed.
💊Changes in Care = Changes in Price
If your pet’s care needs evolve-such as the addition of medications, new behavioral concerns, or the arrival of a new pet- your service price may change to reflect those updates.
Increased care complexity often requires more time, which impacts pricing.
👩⚕️ Senior-Level Care
Pets who are medically fragile or have behavioral needs may be designated as requiring a Senior Level Dog Walker or Pet Sitter.
These visits carry a $10 surcharge per visit, which supports additional staff training and higher compensation for our skilled caregivers.
📅 Frequency Discounts
We offer discounts for recurring walks and hikes:
3 or more walks per week = $2 off per walk
3 or more hikes per week = $5 off per hike
Discounts are applied per service, not across service types.
🔔 Rate Changes
Clients with recurring services will receive at least 14 days’ notice of any upcoming rate changes.
Clients without recurring bookings are not formally notified, but current rates are always available upon request.
To confirm your pricing at any time, you can:
📧 Email or ☎️ Call our office
🗓️ Or view the scheduled service cost directly in Precise Petcare (displayed at the top of your calendar).
📞 Communication Policy
At Merry Puppins, clear and consistent communication helps us provide the safest and most detail-oriented care possible. To keep things running smoothly, we ask all communication be directed through our office- not through individual Team Members.
🕘 Office Hours
Monday–Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Closed on holidays and the day before a holiday after 3:00 PM

🐾 After Hours Communication
You’re welcome to leave a voicemail or send an email- we’ll respond on the next business day.
If you are actively using our services and an urgent issue arises, you may call and press #6 to reach the Team Leader on duty.
The Team Leader is available to assist caregivers and support emergency situations- not for general scheduling or care questions.
For same-day cancellations after hours, please also call and press #6.
Please note: While we will do our best to help in an emergency, emergency pet care is not guaranteed outside of business hours.
🔄 Changes to Your Pet’s Care
We provide extremely detailed care- so we need to know when anything changes.
Please notify us if:
- food, meds, litter boxes, leashes, or other care items move
- Your pet’s routine, health, or behavior changes
- You add a new pet or move to a new home
Many updates can be made directly in your Precise Petcare account, but: major medical or behavioral changes should be discussed by phone during office hours
Late changes (within 7 days) may incur a processing fee, especially if we must reschedule Team Members or update visit instructions.
❌ What Not to Do
- Do not leave handwritten notes at home for our team
- Do not contact Team Members directly
- Do not assume we can accommodate last-minute changes without confirmation from our office
Our Team Members are trained to follow centralized instructions from our management system. Unapproved or unrecorded changes may lead to confusion or errors in care.
🏡 In-Home Update
Visits
Changes to care that may require an in-person consultation include:
- Moving to a new residence
- Adding a new pet
- Significant behavioral or medical updates
These visits are billed at the current rate for an in-home New Client Consultation.
💛 We’re always here to help you get the best care possible for your pets- please reach out with questions any time during office hours!
🏠 Home Access & Key Management Policy
At Merry Puppins, the safety of your home and the well-being of your pets are our top priorities. To ensure secure, consistent access to your home, we follow clear protocols for key handling and entry methods.
🔐 Our Practices
- We do not make multiple copies of client keys
- Our Team Members do not keep keys in their possession
- We require at least one secure access method, and strongly recommend two
(You'll record these on your Home Access / Responsible Key Management Form)
🛑 If We Cannot Access Your Home
If your only access method fails:
- We will contact you immediately
- If we do not reach you within 10 minutes, we will contact your emergency contact
- If no one is reachable, we will leave the premises
- You will be charged for:
The missed visit, and any additional trips needed to resume care
🚨 Emergency Entry
If we are unable to access your home and:
- More than 8 hours pass for dogs, or
- More than 24 hours pass for cats
We will contact a locksmith to gain entry and ensure your pets’ safety.
You will be responsible for:
- The cost of the locksmith
- A $39/hour manager fee for time spent coordinating and waiting onsite
🏡 Clients Who Are Usually Home
Even if you are typically or always home during visits, we strongly encourage you to provide a backup access methodin case of emergency (e.g., lockbox or keyless entry). This ensures we can still provide care if you're unexpectedly unavailable.
🗝️ Clients Without a Lockbox or Keyless Entry
If you are unable to keep a lockbox onsite and do not have a keyless entry, we will store your primary key in our office. In this case:
A key pick-up/drop-off fee of $2–$10 per visit will apply
(Based on your distance from our office at 5877 Commerce St., Pittsburgh, PA 15206)
⚠️ Forgotten or Unavailable Lockbox
If your primary access method is a lockbox, and it’s not set out when services begin:
- There is a $25 fee for a manager to retrieve and deliver your backup key
- If care is delayed, the original visit will be billed in full
- A new visit will be scheduled as soon as possible once access is restored
- If you realize the lockbox is unavailable after leaving home, please notify us immediately so we can avoid service delays.
We are happy to assist you in setting up safe, reliable access for your pet care services. 🐾 Let us know if you have questions!
Client Account Updates & Care Information Policy
To ensure we provide the very best care for your pets, it is essential that all client account details remain accurate and up to date.
If anything in your home changes—including but not limited to:
- The location of pet supplies
- Care routines
- Home access instructions
- Pet-related changes (e.g., new food, adjustments to feeding or medication routines, a different harness, or changes to your pet’s health or behavior)
It is your responsibility to update this information in your client account.
Please do not leave paper notes for your Pet Sitter or Dog Walker.
All client information is formatted within our system for consistency and clarity, ensuring our team has what they need to care for your pets safely and effectively.
We monitor account updates and will reach out if we have any questions.
⏰ Timeframe for Updates
To ensure our team is fully prepared, we will review all updates to your account or pet care details during regular office hours:
🕘 Office Hours
Monday–Thursday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
Closed on all major holidays.
On the day before a holiday, our office closes at 3:00 PM.
✅ At least 7 calendar days prior for changes to care:
- New food or feeding instructions
- A different harness or leash
- Change in home access instructions (e.g., new lock code)
- A move to a new residence
- One or more new pets added to your family
- Changes in your pet’s health, behavior, or mobility
- Changes in medication needs (see Medication Administration and Senior Protocol below)
Updates submitted outside of office hours, on weekends, or on holidays will be considered received on the next business day.
If updates are submitted outside of these timeframes, we cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to accommodate them and may need to reschedule or decline services until we have confirmed all details.
⛑️ Medication Administration
If your pet requires medication, it is critical that we are informed of any changes, including:
- New medications or supplements
- Changes in dosage, frequency, or administration method
- Discontinuation of a medication
Because administering medication is a high-responsibility task, any updates to your pet’s medication regimen must be communicated at least 7 days in advance during office hours. This allows us to review the changes with you and ensure our team is fully prepared.
Please note: Certain types of medication administration (e.g., insulin injections, pilling cats, administering medication to “spicy” pets) may require visits to be designated under our Senior Protocol, which involves specially trained team members and an additional fee. See our Senior Protocol Policy for full details.
Service Adjustment Fee: To ensure our team can provide safe, consistent care, any updates submitted less than 7 days before your scheduled service must be submitted by phone during our office hours.
If we are able to accommodate the change, a $25 Service Adjustment Fee will apply to cover the additional staff time required to review your pet’s updated care plan and prepare accordingly.
Communication Policy: All updates and changes must be submitted through our office, not directly to your Pet Sitter or Dog Walker. This ensures consistency and allows us to provide the highest level of care. For information on how to reach us during and outside of office hours, please refer to our Communication Policy.
Time Between Services: If it has been 60 days or more since your last service, we will check in to ask about any updates.
If it has been 120 days or more since your last service, we require a scheduled phone call to review and confirm all care notes. This check-in call costs $25.00 and must be completed before we can resume services.
Failure to Update Account Information:
Please understand that our team cannot safely provide care based on outdated or incomplete information. If your account has not been updated and we are unable to confirm important details, we may be unable to provide service until updates are made.
Our goal is always to keep your pets safe and happy, and to support our team with accurate, reliable information.
Scheduling and Cancellation Policy
At Merry Puppins, our Scheduling and Cancellation Policy is designed to support both our clients and our team.
Because we provide one-on-one, customized pet care, each visit is thoughtfully scheduled, and your reservation directly impacts our ability to fairly and sustainably staff our amazing Pet Sitters and Dog Walkers.
By providing our Team Members with predictable schedules and steady income, we’re able to attract and retain the best professional pet care providers-which means the best possible experience for you and your pets.
📅 Scheduling Policy
🐕 Dog Walks
We strongly prefer ongoing or recurring dog walking services on the same days/times each week.
This allows us to provide consistent care and scheduling for your walker.
We understand that recurring scheduling doesn’t work for everyone! If you have an irregular schedule:
Please try to book monthly if possible (many clients do this and it’s greatly appreciated!)
Otherwise, submit requests by 5:00 PM on the Wednesday before the week of service
Last-minute requests (after Wednesday at 5 PM) must be made by phone and will be fulfilled if possible.
📌 Holiday Reminder
Recurring visits do not automatically populate on holidays.
Please either manually request these visits or call us to add them for you.
🐾 Travel Care, Canine Adventure Hikes, and Jolly Holidays
These services require significant time blocks and planning, so please schedule as far in advance as possible.
Availability is limited, and early requests help us ensure coverage.
⏱️ All Services
Requests made within 24 hours of a scheduled visit will incur a $20 surcharge
Same-day requests are not always possible- booking early is the best way to secure your spot!
Once your visit is confirmed, you’ll receive an email notification that includes our cancellation policy.
⏰ Late Scheduling Requests
Our scheduling cutoff is **Wednesday at 5:00 PM for the following week**.
Any visit requests submitted **after the scheduling cutoff**, whether by email, online request, phone call, or voicemail, will be considered firm booking requests once submitted.
Late scheduling requests require significant coordination and adjustment of our team's schedules. In many cases, we must rearrange existing schedules, adjust staff routes, or reserve time while we confirm coverage. As soon as we receive your request, we begin actively working to accommodate it. We will notify you if we are unable to fulfill the request.
If we are able to accommodate your late request and you subsequently choose to cancel it, the request will be treated as a **full-price cancellation**, regardless of when the cancellation is made.
We appreciate your understanding that fitting visits into the schedule after the cutoff often requires substantial planning and coordination to ensure we can continue providing reliable, high-quality service to all clients.

- Your first visit must be scheduled within 24 hours of your departure.
- Your last visit must be scheduled within 24 hours of your expected return.

😻 Catio Access
All cats, birds, and small pets will be kept indoors for the duration of travel care, with the sole exception of feeding feral cats.
Access to catios will be considered on a case-by-case basis. To be approved, the catio must be 100% secure and accessible directly from the home- no unsecured or outdoor transit can be involved. We will not permit cats to enter any outdoor areas that are not fully enclosed and secure.

👣 Team-Based Care & Scheduling Policy
At Merry Puppins, we take a team-based approach to ensure your pet always receives reliable, high-quality care.
This system allows us to provide consistent service- even when individual Team Members are unavailable.
🐾 How It Works
We do our very best to provide consistency in care, and this is easiest to achieve when services are booked on a recurring basis.
Recurring Dog Walks:
Recurring clients are typically assigned 2-3 dedicated Dog Walkers, with members of our Leadership Team available as backups. This ensures consistency and reliability.
Non-Recurring Walks & Travel Care:
These visits are scheduled based on teamwide availability. Because of this, there may be variation in who visits your home, especially:
Evenings/ Weekends /Holidays. There should be no expectation of consistent coverage for non-recurring visits or one-time services.
🧡 Our Commitment to Your Pet
While individual caregivers may vary, all of our Team Members are:
- Highly trained
- Background checked
- Provided with detailed care instructions
- Supported by a Leadership Team available 7 days a week
We promise your pet will always receive the same level of loving, attentive care-no matter who is scheduled.
🐶 Warm Handoff Protocol
We know some dogs are shy, anxious, or take time to warm up to new people—and we want every dog to feel safe, relaxed, and happy when our Team Members visit. To support this, we may implement our Warm Handoff Protocol to help your dog build trust with new caregivers.
🤝 What Is a Warm Handoff?
A Warm Handoff is when a familiar Team Member brings along a new Team Member during a scheduled visit to personally introduce them to your dog. This allows your dog to meet new caregivers in a low-stress way, with someone they already know and trust.
🐾 How It Works
For Recurring Dog Walking Cllents:
Up to 2 complimentary Warm Handoff visits are included (no additional charge).
- If your dog needs more than 2 Warm Handoff visits, the additional visits will be billed at:
The regular cost of the service, plus
50% of the service cost for the accompanying Team Member
For As-Needed / Non-Recurring Clients:
Warm Handoffs are not complimentary.
- All Warm Handoff visits will be billed at:
The regular cost of the service, plus
50% of the service cost for the second Team Member
We’re committed to supporting your dog’s comfort and well-being-especially when building new relationships. 💛
🧡 Senior Protocol
Some pets require more advanced or specialized care.
When that’s the case, we activate our Senior Protocol to ensure your pet is matched with a highly experienced caregiver who can provide the safest, most compassionate support.
🐾 When Is Senior Protocol Required?
We may assign a Senior Pet Sitter or Senior Dog Walker if your pet:
- Has medical or behavioral needs
- Requires complex medication administration
- Presents safety or handling challenges
You’ll always be informed if your pet is assessed as needing Senior Protocol care.
👩⚕️ Senior Pet Sitter Examples
- Injections (e.g., insulin)
- SubQ fluids
- Oral meds for cats/small pets
- Medication for birds
- Eye drops/ointments
- Medication for “spicy” pets (with handling or safety concerns)
🐕 Senior Dog Walker Requirements
We determine the need for a Senior Dog Walker based on:
- Behavioral observations at your New Client Consultation
- Any changes in your dog’s behavior or health over time
- Dogs may be added to or removed from this protocol as needed.
💰 Cost & Scheduling
Visits requiring Senior Protocol include a $10 surcharge per visit
Availability may be limited, as only select Team Members are qualified for these visits
Need help determining if your pet qualifies? Just ask-we’re here to ensure every pet gets the care they need, safely and lovingly. 💛
🦴 Leash & Handling Policy
At Merry Puppins, the safety and emotional well-being of your dog- and our Team- is our top priority.
As a Fear Free Certified organization, we follow handling guidelines rooted in compassion, safety, and science. We cannot make exceptions to this policy.
🚫 No Retractable Leashes
We do not use retractable leashes under any circumstances, as they pose safety risks to both dogs and handlers.
If a standard leash is not available, your Dog Walker will use a company-issued nylon leash.
💛 Our “Spoonful of Sugar” Method
We use positive reinforcement only and never employ punitive or aversive techniques.
This means:
- No prong, choke, pinch, shock, or spray collars
- No leash corrections, physical punishment, or intimidation
We recommend using a harness or Gentle Leader for safe and effective handling.
🐶 Need Help with Gear or Training?
If you need assistance:
- Selecting or fitting a harness

Our School for Dogs training team is here to help. We’re happy to incorporate approved training protocols into your pet’s visits.

At Merry Puppins, safety comes first—for your pets and our Team.
We use careful judgment in extreme weather conditions to ensure every walk is safe and comfortable.
🐾 Weather-Based Adjustments
We always consider your dog’s age, breed, and health. For example, a healthy St. Bernard will handle cold and snow better than an elderly Chihuahua.
🚫 Outdoor Time Limits
Walks will be shortened during extreme weather.
In all cases, the full visit time will still be spent providing care—just indoors!
90°F+ → Max 15 minutes outdoors
85°F+ with Air Quality Alert → Max 15 minutes outdoors
Storms with lightning → Brief potty breaks only
Cold/wet extremes → Shortened walks as needed for safety

You will be charged for the full visit
Visit -lengths cannot be adjusted retroactively
🚗 Parking Fee Policy
If our Team Member must park in a pay-to-park area in order to access your home (e.g., metered street parking, pay garages, or restricted-access buildings), the parking fee will be added as a surcharge to your invoice.
If you would prefer to avoid this charge, you are welcome to provide a parking pass, card, or code- please arrange this when booking your visits.
Thank you for helping us care for your pets safely and efficiently! 🐾

If you are present while your Pet Sitter or Dog Walker is visiting your home, we kindly ask that you do not smoke or vape during the visit.
Rest assured, your pet will never be exposed to smoking or vaping by any member of the Merry Puppins Team.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, healthy environment for everyone! 🐾
